Music is Life

“I don’t know what I would have done without music in my life. Music was my refuge and solace. It was a friend that was always there for me. The one thing I knew I was really good at. It fed me and kept me going. That feeling hasn’t changed. Music is a gift. It connects us to each other and to ourselves. Through it we share our stories and our emotions, and we create a whole new way of communicating.”  - Sarah McLachlan

The Sarah McLachlan Foundation is hard at work to expand our music outreach program, and to continue to celebrate the achievements of our students.

Arts and Culture Week

Young Artists for Haiti

Young Artists for Haiti recorded a revamped version of hip-hop artist K'Naan's Wavin' Flag. More than 50 of Canada's brightest, emerging young stars gathered to record the song in an effort to help Haiti.

We are very proud that the youth choir from Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach contributed to this video with proceeds going to Free The Children, War Child Canada and World Vision.

Cultural Olympiad

Kinesphere, an event that partnered the SMMO kids with an Arts Umbrella dance team, was a smashing success during the Vancouver 2010 WInter Games.
It was a beautiful day and hundreds of people came out to enjoy the music and the celebrations. Well done kids!
